At Monarch Joint Venture, we believe that learning about monarchs should be hands-on, joyful, and accessible for all ages. Monarchs spark curiosity! Whether a child is spotting their first caterpillar or an adult is discovering monarch migration for the first time. That passion inspired us to create three monarch-themed activity books, each designed to engage a different age group and introduce monarch science and conservation in fun, meaningful ways.
These books help families, educators, and young learners deepen their connection to monarchs and the natural world through drawing, observation, games, and guided exploration. Below, you’ll find a breakdown of each book: who it’s for, what it includes, and how it supports monarch conservation learning. Also included with each book is a Grown-Up Guide full of additional activities, helpful hints for teaching outside, and more!

Growing with Monarchs was designed with young learners in mind—children who are just starting to explore nature and recognize patterns in the world around them. Through tracing, coloring, matching, and simple science activities, children learn the basics of the monarch life cycle: egg, caterpillar, chrysalis, and butterfly. Letters are a strong focus.

This book lays the foundation for future learning by providing gentle, hands-on activities that build fine motor skills, observation skills, and early scientific understanding.

Journey with Monarchs is the companion to Growing with Monarchs, focusing on monarch migration and their habitats. Through tracing, matching, counting, and more, this book introduces children to the idea that monarchs travel long distances, stop along the way to rest and refuel, and encounter many habitats during their journey. Numbers (in English and Spanish) are a strong focus.

This book invites early learners to imagine themselves as part of the great monarch migration story, fostering empathy and awe for these remarkable travelers.
3. Exploring with Monarchs: Read, Discover, Grow

Our newest activity book, Exploring with Monarchs, was created for curious kids ready for a deeper, more detailed look at the monarch life cycle and monarch science. This book guides learners to ask questions, make observations, and record what they see—building the same real-world skills used by scientists and community scientists alike.

This book bridges creativity and science, helping kids move from passive learning to active discovery. It’s perfect for families, teachers, after-school programs, and budding naturalists.
