Make your yard into a beautiful monarch habitat! Grow milkweed: the plant that monarchs require to complete their life cycle and also supports many more insects and pollinators.

This flat of 10 pint-size common milkweed plants is for planting as far west as Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri and Arkansas, and as far south as Arkansas, Tennessee, and Georgia. Consult the shipping map on this page to confirm your state falls within the shipping zone.

This flat will cover about 10-20 square feet of garden space. Consider purchasing other milkweeds or nectar plants to provide long-lasting pollen and nectar for monarchs and other pollinators.

Common milkweed (Asclepias syriaca) is the most widespread milkweed in North America, and will thrive in a variety of moisture conditions, though it prefers full sun. Monarch butterflies need milkweed to lay eggs and raise caterpillars on - it’s the only plant monarch caterpillars will eat.

  • Sun Exposure: Full sun

  • Soil Conditions: Wet-Mesic- Mesic

  • Height: 3'-5'

  • Flower Color: White-Pink-Purple

  • Flowering Time: June, July, August

Common milkweed plants and flowers are very pleasing looking and can be very fragrant. These plants are extremely tolerant of many soil types, moisture, and sun conditions. So much so, they can be easily cultivated and can be somewhat aggressive in certain conditions. Use this aggressive trait to your advantage, plant appropriately. For less aggressive milkweed, check out our 10 pint flats of Swamp Milkweed and Butterfly Milkweed.

Plant orders are fulfilled by Natural Communities. Orders will start shipping at the end of May, and will ship on Mondays.
