Monarch Larva Monitoring Project (MLMP) virtual trainings

The MLMP is a monarch community science project that is co-run by MJV and the University of Wisconsin-Madison Arboretum. It relies on volunteers across North America and New Zealand to collect long-term data on monarch distribution and abundance during their breeding season.

As an MLMP volunteer, your contributions will aid in conserving monarchs and their threatened migratory phenomenon, and advance our understanding of butterfly ecology in general.

Interested in a live virtual training session to get an in-depth understanding on how to participate in the program? You can register HERE.

There are 3 training sessions available; sign up for the session focused on your region:

  • Western States - April 23, 2022 (11:00 - 4:00 CST)

The MJV store has some products that pair well with MLMP participation:

MLMP Kits -- These kits help you easily participate in MLMP!

Fanny Packs -- Use these to carry the necessities while you're out monitoring, such as the monarch life cycle cards, your phone, and wallet. These bags fit a lot of stuff and are so fashionable!

Milkweed, Monarchs, and More -- This field guide is a great tool to help you learn more about all the things that live in a milkweed patch. Using this book, you can try identifying the other insects and plants you see while out monitoring!

Life Cycle Cards -- Our monarch life cycle cards are a great way to help you identify the monarch instar you are identifying, and they are easy to carry with you. If you happen to drop them while out monitoring, don’t fret! They are waterproof and durable.

MLMP signs & MJV habitat signs -- Help others in your community learn about your native monarch habitat and MLMP participation by putting up these signs!

You will receive an MJV store discount code with your MLMP training registration to help you get all the items you’d like from the store!

Will there be more trainings for the Monarch larva monitoring project? I have been growing milkweed and polinator plants for a few years now and would really like to help the Monarchs.

Whatever happened to this project?

Deb

I attended the training in 2022, it was awesome! At some points, I was overwhelmed but I absorbed the info in smaller pieces as I received the items in this kit; it’s the total package. If you’re a pollinator supporter dive in.

I want to help.
